Bucharest’s District 1 City Hall to build “the most advanced hospital in Eastern Europe”

26 August 2016

Bucharest’s District 1 City Hall, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, will build a new hospital in the northern area of the capital.

The new health center will be located on the Bucharest-Targoviste street, and will serve as a municipal hospital.

“The recovery of the sick must come first, and must be done in good hospital conditions. District 1, in fact the entire Bucharest, urgently needs a new hospital, equipped according to European standards and with a well-trained team of doctors. That is why the administration I lead will finance the construction of the most advanced hospital in Eastern Europe,” said District 1 mayor Dan Tudorache.

The new hospital will be built on a 4.4-hectare plot that is under the District 1 City Hall’s administration. It will comply with all standards of emergency care, and will also operate as a university center for students and resident doctors, according to a statement from the District 1 City Hall.

“In the following period, together with the Bucharest City Hall, we’ll begin the necessary procedures to enter a straight line with this project. I will start an international contest of architecture and will call in tenders the builders that have experience in building hospitals,” the mayor said.

Moreover, the District 1 City Hall also plans to build a housing complex in northern Bucharest, which would be rented to the new hospital’s medical staff at moderate prices.

Romania’s Health Ministry and Bucharest District 1 City Hall announced earlier this month that they are planning a new burn hospital in Bucharest. The announcement was made one month after the authorities decided to shut down the Intensive Care Unit (ATI) of the Burn Hospital in Bucharest.
