Romania's capital Bucharest will celebrate its 557th anniversary this September with a wide range of events, from concerts and exhibitions, to workshops, theater, and parades.

The events will take place in Constitutiei Square (in front of the People’s Palace), and Cismigiu and Herastrau parks between September 16 and September 18.

“I invite Bucharesters to participate next week in the events organized by the Bucharest City Hall to celebrate together 557 years since the city was first mentioned in an official document,” said Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea.

Some of the most popular Romanian pop-rock artists will go on stage in Constitutiei Square on August 17, for a music event that will start at 17:00. The lineup includes Andra, Stefan Banica Jr, Zdob si Zdub, Holograf, Vunk, Bere Gratis, Sore, Loredana, Ruby, Connect-R, Gabriel Cotabita, Marcel Pavel, Ovidiu Komornyic, Proconsul, Phoenix, and Lidia Buble.

Eight street theater groups from Spain, Italy, and France will also entertain the crowd. Clowns and huge dolls, bright butterflies, and dancers will be walking among spectators, and will offer mini-performances full of music and color in the Constitutiei Square and the adjacent streets.

Meanwhile, between September 16-18, Herastrau Park – Charles de Gaulle entry will host the Povesti de Bucuresti (Bucharest Stories) event. The program includes artistic performances, a parade of vintage costumes, the “fight with flowers,” carriage rides, children's theater, music, a fair with handmade products, and living statues.

A Culinary Garden will also be arranged in Bucharest Park, where people can try traditional Romanian food.

Cismigiu Park in downtown Bucharest will also host the Kids City 2016 event, which will feature circus performances, creative workshops and sports activities for children.

Moreover, between September 16 and September 18, Bucharest’s District 3 City Hall and Casa Artelor Cultural Center will organize the third edition of Bulevardul Artelor (Boulevard of Arts) event, dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The event will take place simultaneously on eight mini scenes located on Unirii Boulevard.

A Bread Festival will take place in National Park between September 15 and September 16.

Bucharest’s Constitutiei Square will also host the largest 3D video mapping event in Romania this September.

Entry at all these events is free.
