Bucharest water supplier wants to sell bottled water

11 April 2016

French company Apa Nova, which supplies the water and sewerage services in Bucharest could sell bottled water.

The water produced by the company is 110% drinking water, said Madalin Mihailovici, head of Apa Nova, reports local Agerpres.

A liter of water produced by the company costs RON 0.004 whereas in hypermarkets the price of bottled water reaches RON 1 per liter, he added. People can buy ten liters of drinking water bottled by Apa Nova for RON 0.4.

The company has three plants that provide drinking water. The most modern such plant is the one at Crivina, in which the company has invested USD 50 million. The plant uses chlorine and ozone to purify the water. You can store this fresh water in stainless steel bottles.

Apa Nova is part of French group Veolia. The company and two of its former directors have been investigated for corruption last year, for allegedly bribing local officials to accept higher water prices.
