Bucharest resident files complaint for assault by cab driver over paying only the metered price

26 March 2017

A Bucharest resident filed a complaint with the police claiming he had been beaten by a cab driver for refusing to pay more than the metered sum, Digi24 reported. The incident took place on February 11 but the attacker has not been identified yet.

The man who filed the complained took the cab from the Old Town of the capital. He said the cab driver asked him for RON 25 for the ride and he went into the cab without saying if he accepted or not this fee. When the cab reached the destination, the metered fee was of around RON 10, the man says. He paid RON 11, and asked for a receipt but the driver refused to give it to him. After getting out of the car, he saw the driver coming after him with a baseball bat. The man ended up at the hospital with a 5 centimeters wound to the head and other injuries, Digi24 reported.

The assaulted man says the driver was working for the Leone cab company but the cab company says the car number provided by the victim of the assault was never registered with them. At the same time, Leone said it was cooperating with the authorities.

The investigation in the case is still ongoing.
