British citizen placed under house arrest in Romania on drug trafficking charges

14 February 2017

Romanian prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) arrested a British citizen for 24 hours, after discovering 17 cannabis plants and 500 grams of harvested cannabis in his home, reports local Mediafax.

The Brit, aged 50, was later placed under house arrest. Prosecutors believe that the drugs were not only for personal consumption, but also for traffic.

The prosecutors challenged the court’s decision to place the British citizen under house arrest, as they would have wanted him to spend 30 days under preventive arrest. The Brasov Court of Appeal will give a final ruling.

While under house arrest, the British citizen is not allowed to leave his home in Brasov mountain resort, central Romania.
