Bill: 5% of gambling taxes collected in Romania will go to cinema, monuments

27 April 2016

Romania’s Cinema Fund will get 2% of the taxes gambling companies pay to the state, according to a bill approved by the Chamber of Deputies.

Another 3% of the taxes on gambling will be used for the restoration of historical monuments, reports local Profit.ro.

The Cinema Fund previously received money from the gambling companies’ taxes between 2005 and 2009. This contribution was cancelled through an emergency ordinance in 2009.

The reintroduction of the compulsory levy was approved by the Senate last year. Removing the levy in 2009 led to annual losses of EUR 1.5 million for the Cinema Fund, according to the Senate.
