Balance of non-government loans exceeds EUR 48 bln in Romania in May

The balance of corporate and household loans increased by 0.7% in May compared to April and by 2.4% over the same month in 2015, reaching about EUR 48.2 billion, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR).

The total value of household loans in Romanian currency lei reached over EUR 12.9 billion at the end of May, up 2.3% compared to April and up 33.7% year-on-year. However, the household loans in foreign currency dropped by 1.2% compared to April and by 16.2% over May 2015.

Meanwhile, the government credit decreased in May by 1.4% compared to April reaching EUR 20.1 billion.
