Austrian brick producer buys plant in Romania

27 April 2016

Austrian brick producer Wienerberger has acquired a brick factory from Search Chemicals, a group of companies owned by Turkish investor Omer Susli.

The plant is located near Buzau and also has a clay factory, where it gets its raw materials.

The factory currently operates at a reduced capacity. The Austrian group plans to invest in modernizing it, to bring it at the same level as the group’s other factories.

Wienerberger Romania currently has three factories that manufacture ceramic blocks, in the Dambovita, Sibiu, and Cluj counties, and is the brick market leader in terms of sales.

Omer Susli also owns the Praktiker DIY store network. He said he wanted to sell his production assets, which include another brick factory in Constanta, to focus on his retail operations.
