27 April 2016

Dane Jan Thomsen, who managed the Athénée Palace Hilton five-star hotel in Bucharest from November 2013 until February 2016, was appointed general manager of Hilton Nordics.

Hilton appointed Turkish executive Aykut Korkmaz as general manager of its flagship hotel in Bucharest starting March this year, as Romania-Insider.com wrote earlier this month.

Korkmaz has been working in the hospitality industry for 20 years and for the Hilton chain for more than 14 years. Most recently he spent 3 years in Turkey as Hotel Manager at Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center. Prior to Hilton Istanbul Bomonti, Korkmaz spent almost 10 years in London as Director of Operations for London Tower Bridge and Hilton London Kensington, and as Hotel Manager for Hilton London Heathrow Airport.

Apart from operating Hilton hotels, Korkmaz also gained experience while occupying different positions in various hotels in Turkey and Egypt. Aykut started his career shortly after having his B.A.Sc. degree on Business Administration of Political Sciences Faculty at the University of Ankara.

Athénée Palace Hilton is one of Bucharest’s oldest hotels. Built in 1914, the hotel is located on Calea Victoriei, near the Romanian Athenaeum. It has 272 guestrooms and suites, 13 fully-renovated meeting rooms, a Health Club with pool, and 2 restaurants, a terrace, and bar.

The hotel’s owner is ANA Hotels, one of the top three local hotel companies, owned by Romanian investor George Copos.
