24 March 2017

Turkish group Arcelik, the owner of the Romanian appliance brand Arctic, announced that it would create 4,000 jobs in Romania, following the construction of a new factory in Ulmi, Dambovita county.

Arcelik has bought 70 hectares there and the investment in the new plant is estimated at EUR 200 million, reports local Mediafax. The factory will produce washing machines, dishwashers, and microwave ovens.

The group’s representatives discussed with local officials yesterday on the investment that will be made in Ulmi.  One day earlier, there was a public debate on the future investment, which took place at the Ulmi Town Hall. The debate was related to the building permit.

“It is a total investment of about EUR 200 million, which will be built with clean technology that meets all environmental standards,” said Alexandru Oprea, president of the Dambovita County Council.

The village has about four thousand people. The Arcelik group controls the Arctic factory in Gaesti, which produces refrigerators.

Arctic is the biggest appliance producer in Romania and one of the country’s top exporters. The company had a turnover of over EUR 400 million and a net profit of EUR 31 million in 2015. Arctic had more than 2,900 employees.
