22 August 2016

The American International School of Bucharest (AISB) has invested some EUR 1 million this summer to prepare for the new school year. The school estimates revenues of EUR 16 million in the 2016-2017 school year, similar to those in the previous year, according to its representatives.

“A new library, aligned to today’s realities and needs, science labs, modernized classrooms, advanced technologies, and many other new features wait for our students in the new school year, after we have made over EUR 1 million investments over summer. Each year, AISB has been investing at least EUR 500,000 in the students’ comfort and modernizing the school,” said AISB director Robert Brindley.

Some 810 students from 56 countries are registered for the start of the new school year, 242 of whom attend high school classes. About a third (32%) of the students are Romanian, 13% are American, 5% are Israeli, another 5% are German, and 4% are Turkish.

The school has over 120 teachers who represent some 19 nationalities. AISB’s curriculum is based on the International Baccalaureate Program and is accredited by institutions such as New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Council of International Schools, and International Baccalaureate Organization.

AISB takes in children as young as 2 years old, in its kindergarten program, and takes them all the way to high school. Each class has no more than 20 students.

The tuition fees start from EUR 6,868 per year for pre-school students and reach EUR 20,080 per year for the last two years of high school. AISB has also been offering 2-3 scholarships every year for Romanian students who join the 8th and 9th grades.

AISB was founded in 1962 by the US Embassy to Romania. The school currently has a 10-hectare campus in northern Bucharest, which was built in 2001.
