An American basketball player who plays for the Baschet Club Teleorman in Romania fell from the fourth floor of the block of flats where she was living, after a Parkour jump went wrong. Călin Voicu, the president of the basketball club, said Chelsea Ann Lyons, who broke her leg in the fall after landing on the hood of a car, was into extreme sports and at the time of the jump, she was also drunk.
He also said she had done this before, as she was passionate about Parkour, or free-running, and Romania offered her more opportunities to practice it, as buildings are not as high as in the US, and the fourth floor seemed ‘approachable’. She had done it before, having jumped off the roof of a house, but without any injuries back then. Parkour, also called art of displacement, consists in moving from one place to another, negotiating the obstacles in between. The discipline uses no equipment and is non-competitive. It became popular in the 1990s and 2000s through a series of documentaries and films featuring several Parkour practitioners. The name derives from “parcours du combattant”, the classic obstacle-course method of military training. – Watch a video below -
