30 May 2017

The air traffic controllers in Romania will go on strike on Tuesday morning, May 30, starting 09:00. This means that some flights will be delayed or even canceled.

The union’s negotiations with the management of the Air Traffic Services Administration – Romatsa failed on Monday, May 29, and the employees will go on a strike on Tuesday morning at 09:00, the representatives of the Romanian Air Traffic Services Union (ATSR) said on Monday, reports local News.ro. The negotiations took place at the Ministry of Transport.

Under the law, the employees will ensure at least 30% of air traffic. However, the strike may last only one or two hours, not indefinitely as previously announced.

The unionists said there was a deadline for submitting the draft budget for Romatsa, and this deadline was Monday. Moreover, according to them, there is a risk that Romatsa will go bankrupt.

Last week, Gabriel Tudorache, the leader of the Romanian Air Traffic Services Union (ATSR), announced that the air traffic controllers could go on strike on May 30.

On May 12, the air traffic controllers organized a warning strike of two hours.
