Afghan citizen banned from Romania due to terrorist links

An Afghan citizen living in Romania, called Noor Rahman Niazi, was declared undesirable in Romania for ten years because of national security concerns, the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled yesterday.

The Romanian prosecutors made the request at the proposal of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI). According to the Prosecutor’s Office, there are strong clues that Noor Rahman Niazi conducted activities that are threats to the national security.

The man came to SRI’s attention in 2015, when he illegally entered Romania, according to SRI. Noor Rahman Niazi remained in Romanian as asylum seeker.

He had joined a terrorist group that was involved in attacks against allied forces present in Afghanistan. After arriving in Romania, he remained in touch with the Afghan terrorist group, according to SRI.
