03 May 2016

Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest beer producer, plans to sell SABMiller’s assets in Eastern Europe.

AB InBev wants to take over its competitor SABMiller, but in order to have the transaction approved, it has decided to sell some of the brands owned by SABMiller.

AB InBev informed the European Commission, on Friday, that it would put up for sale SABMiller’s operations in Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. The EC will give its answer on the InBev-SABMiller deal on May 24.

SABMiller is the biggest beer producer in Romania. Its portfolio includes brands such as Ursus, Timisoreana, and Ciucas.

AB InBev has also accepted the offer of the Japanese group Asahi that wants to take over the brands Grolsch, Peroni, and Meantime, owned by SABMiller. The deal is estimated at EUR 2.55 billion.

AB InBev accepted last year to buy SABMiller for USD 100 billion.
