80,000 employees of Romania's Interior Ministry will get wage increases

17 March 2017

About 80,000 employees of the Interior Ministry (MAI) will receive wage increases that were decided after discussions with representatives of the MAI employees who protested in front of the ministry’s headquarters in Bucharest on Wednesday. Protests also took place at the Labor Ministry.

The increases represent a budget effort of RON 13 million (EUR 2.8 million) a month, said yesterday the Interior Minister Dan Carmen.

She also said that the merit wage for police officers will be granted in April instead of August. It was also decided to remove the wage difference between military doctors in the ministry and civilian doctors.

She said that a working group with representatives of the MAI employees will take part in the discussions on the unitary pay law.
