Over 7 million Romanian households have TV subscriptions

The number of TV subscribers in Romania exceeded 7 million at the end of 2015, up by 4% year-on-year, according to a report by the local telecom regulator ANCOM.

Most of the TV subscriptions were in cities (60%) whereas 40% were from rural areas.

The majority of the subscribers were watching TV through cable networks, namely almost 4.6 million. Some 2.4 million had subscriptions via satellite networks and some 80,000 had used IP TV services.

Most of the subscribers (81%) in urban areas had cable television whereas most of the people in villages watched TV via satellite networks.

The penetration rate of TV services per household exceeded 94% at end-2015.
