Over 60,000 Romanians work in outsourcing for low salaries

22 September 2016

Over 60,000 Romanians are currently working in outsourcing, generating over EUR 1.2 billion in revenues for their companies, according to HR company Smartree.

The salaries offered to people employed in this industry in Romania are still the lowest in Europe.

Outsourcing includes both Shared Service Centers (SSC) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). The Shared Service Centers (SSC) offices cover outsourcing activities of various business processes such as accounting, logistics and procurement, HR, IT, online marketing, and call center.

Most of these centers deliver projects for multinational companies that have found in Romania one of the most attractive markets at global level on this segment. Companies choose Romania for these services because the labor is cheaper than in other countries in Europe. Moreover, young people are well prepared, adaptable and have good foreign language knowledge, according to Smartree.

Most SSC centers are in Bucharest, followed by Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Brasov, and Iasi.

The local outsourcing market amounted to EUR 1.2 billion last year, but is expected to grow to EUR 1.5 billion this year.
