Uber Romania, the company that provides ride-sharing services in Bucharest, Cluj, Brasov and Timisoara, aims to reduce traffic in the capital by a third until 2020 by launching an application that will allow customers to share car rides.

The uberPOOL service is available in many cities from abroad. Its use helped reduce traffic, fuel consumption. In Romania, the app will be launched next year, said Uber Romania general director Nicoleta Schroeder.

The Uber regular service, which is an alternative to taxi services, currently has 250,000 active users in Romania, two years after its launch. Some 12 months ago, the company only had 70,000 users.

The rapid growth in the last year came as the company expanded to other cities and was also supported by changes in the pricing policy. The company significantly cut the prices of rides and allowed more drivers to join its network in Bucharest.

Uber Romania representatives say the company will maintain the growth pace this year.
